Frequently asked questions about liposuction
Who performs the operations?
A highly experienced plastic surgeon (and member of the union of German plastic surgeons) carries out all cosmetic surgery in our hospital.

When is liposuction recommended?
We perform this surgery, when it concerns local accumulations of fatty tissue in problem zones (hips, waist, stomach, thighs, etc; but rarely the arms or lower leg). If possible, the skin should be taut and free from a tendency to loosen itself.

Patients with a high body fat count should first reduce their weight and fat count through sporting activities and a balanced diet.

How long does the pain last? What should I consider after the operation?
Any pain will feel like a moderate muscular strain and depending on the area and dimensions will appear for up to 10 days.

A specially adapted compressive corset should be worn for 6 weeks. We recommend that you refrain from sports or heavy physical activities during this time.

How long before I can go back to work?
Depending on the area, dimensions and your occupation, you can resume work after a period of 2-12 days.

When will I see the final results?
You need a little patience! Firstly, the swelling, bruising and irregularities need a period of approximately six weeks to regress. However, it may last for some months.

Will fat reform in other places after liposuction?
New formations of fat cells are only possible during infancy. Movements of fatty tissue and/or an above average re-emergence of pads of fat should not be expected. If your weight fluctuates after surgery, your outer body shape will always change proportionally.
FAQ

Liposuction

Besides the oft-published operational procedures, which usually leave conspicuous scars after the removal of large sections of skin from the shoulder region, the possibility of subcutaneous (underneath the skin) vacuum extraction by local anaesthetic is also available. Here, by making a cut of approx. 3mm in length the sweat glands beneath the skin are relaxed and extracted.

By using the tumescence technique of local anaesthesia (tumescere = Latin = swell, inflate), larger quantities of a diluted local anaesthesia solution are introduced into the subcutaneous fatty tissue. This procedure reduces both the extent of the bleeding during the operation and the swelling afterwards.

Please see the liposuction page for details of the surgery itself and for events after the operation.

Chances of success
Almost 100% of the cases treated with toxin injections result in full dryness of the armpit region. A disadvantage of this treatment is the limited shelf life of the compound.

After the surgical extraction of the sweat glands, there is also the danger that in the long term increased sweat secretions will appear.

Surgery-specific risks
As with every surgical operation there are risks with the extraction of sweat glands in the axillary area (armpit), e.g. swelling, dent formation, bruising and temporary numbness of the skin.

After the toxin injection, itching and a reddening of the skin are sometimes seen, but this quickly subsides.
