First contact
After the first telephone call, we will happily send you the relevant information including a hospital brochure.
In a free and non-committal consultation with the hospital’s
medical director, the possible plastic surgical and, if necessary, the
non-operational procedures which can be especially applied to you, will
be explained in detail. The possibilities of correction will be shown
to you using extensive visual material. Clarification occupies special
status over the theoretically possible risks.
During this discussion, you should inform us about any existing
illnesses (e.g. vascular, heart/circulatory, lung, blood, or of
internal organs). Likewise, you should tell us in each case about
existing allergies (for example, against plasters, medicines and
ointments) and regular medicinal intakes.
No treatment or operation the same. Therefore, we place great value
on the in-depth consultation and the individual support after the
treatment.
We have prepared detailed documentation for more specific enquiries.
The treatment
Depending on your wishes and consequently the aims of the therapy, you can choose to have your treatment as an in- or out-patient. During our mutual discussion, we will inform you in detail of this matter.
Before the operation
Should you decide to allow us to undertake the operation in our
hospital; you have the possibility of a second discussion in which you
may ask further questions. You will receive a clarification and consent
form, which we ask you to sign and bring to the operation.
Approx. two to three weeks before the operation you should abstain
from taking pain-killing medicines (aspirin, etc.) as the usage of
these medicines can sometimes cause thinning of the blood, which
increases the risk of a post-operative haemorrhage. We would also like
to ask you to abstain from nicotine, alcohol and sleeping pills during
this time.
A blood test a few days before the operation will also be
necessary. The results should give us information about the condition
of your organs, your metabolic situation and your blood status. This
can be done in our hospital or by your family doctor. An X-ray of the
lungs and/or an electrocardiogram examination can also be necessary.
These tests should verify the anaesthetic capability in order to avoid
any complications.
Since the predominant numbers of operations are undertaken by
general anaesthetic, which switches off consciousness and sensitivity
during the period of the operation, you will be introduced to our
anaesthetist who will examine you in detail. In this discussion a
tailor-made anaesthetic procedure will be established, which will
guarantee the minimum use of medicine and a quick recovery after the
operation.
The day of the operation
On the day of the operation, we will need a signed declaration of
consent from you for the surgery and the anaesthetic. After you have
put your personal things in your room, have seen the photographic
documents and the guidance lines, the anaesthetist will administer you
intravenously with a sedative in the operating theatre and then begin
with the anaesthetic. If the operation is done by local anaesthetic,
you will still receive an intravenous sedative before the use of the
local anaesthetic begins.
Immediately after the operation, you will feel drowsy for a while. There is usually no pain.
However, should you feel any pain later; you will receive
pain-relieving medicine. Thanks to new intravenous anaesthetics,
extremely few patients complain of nausea after an operation.
To prevent thrombosis, you will receive medicine and
anti-thrombosis socks. A quick mobilisation is required after most
operations, so that after a few hours you can walk around the room
independently and use the WC.
After the treatment
In order to obtain an optimal result, a thorough and individual
follow-up treatment is indispensable after the treatment. Here we are
dependant on your cooperation!
On the day of discharge, you should use our shuttle service or be
collected. At home, a moderate mobilisation is required; however, you
should not over-exert yourself. Regular periods of rest strengthen your
body and support the healing process. Special advice for each
individual operation will be given in hospital.
As a rule, any drainage will be removed two to three days after the
time of discharge. The removal of the stitches will follow the removal
of any bandaging.
It is generally accepted that a period of weeks to months may pass
before you see the definite results. A little patience is particularly
important after plastic and aesthetic operations.
Compression bandages should be worn for approximately 6 weeks day
and night. The success of the surgery can only be ensured through this
rigorous follow-up treatment. After most operations, the patient should
refrain from any sporting activity for approximately 6 weeks and for at
least 2 months from sunbathing and using the sauna.
The characteristics of the respective surgical operations as
well as the special code of conduct can be found under the link
"Operations".
Risks
No physician can guarantee a treatment free of risk. The general dangers of a surgical operation such as thrombosis (formation of blood clots; coagulated mass), embolisms (blockage of blood vessels by clots) and over-sensitive reactions through the prophylactic dosage of certain medicines or specific pre- and post-operational measures are extremely rare. Any swelling or patchy bruising will disappear by itself. If necessary, appropriate medicines will reduce any pain. Our experience shows that, in principle, all possible risks are virtually eliminated by planning and implementing the operation carefully and expertly, and by optimum follow-up treatment, to which you contribute significantly.
In our first two discussions, we will clarify all possible risks to you. For the specific risks of the individual operations, we will refer you to the appropriate information page.
