Pads of fat, which have developed in the thigh, are
easily and permanently corrected through liposuction. If you suffer
from surplus skin-fat, a lifting operation can achieve the desired
cosmetic success. In particular, patients who through countless diets
and/or intensive sporting activities have achieved weight loss, yet
suffer from cosmetically unpleasant skin, can be helped effectively.
When is thigh-lifting recommended?
A corrective operation is recommended when there is loose skin with
wrinkles or many localised accumulations of fat on the inside of the
thigh, for example, after drastic yet successful weight loss. In some
cases, a lifting operation can be combined with liposuction.
In cases of substantial overweight with generalized accumulations
of fat, we recommend weight reduction before an operation. The closer
your current weight is to your ideal weight, the better the operational
results will be. However, we will explain this in a thorough discussion
with you.
Chances of success
Removal of the loose and surplus skin in the thighs is inevitably
accompanied by larger incisions and therefore sometimes longer
scarring. However, these incisions are placed in such a way as to be
unseen in both the arms and legs. In order to achieve optimal results,
these operations will be performed in our clinic by a plastic surgery
specialist.
Successful results are permanent. Removed fatty tissue cannot
reform in the same place. If you gain weight, the fatty tissue will
increase proportionally.
The operation
Performed under general anaesthetic, the operation lasts for
approximately two to four hours (depending on the operated area). After
extensive disinfection, the surplus skin and fatty tissue are removed.
After the operation, a scar will develop in the inner thigh and run
horizontally between the groin and the ischium (bone in the pelvis). An
extra vertical incision, which goes in the direction of the inside of
the knee, is necessary in cases of excess surplus skin.
Smaller fat deposits in the immediate proximity can also be removed
by liposuction in order to achieve a smooth outline. The subsequent
stitching leads to a tightening of the surrounding skin.
In order to avoid a collection of blood and water in the wound, we
will insert two silicon pipes into the area to withdraw the fluids. The
removal of these fluids will take place two to three days after the
operation.
In order to relieve the strain on the edge of the wound, we will
apply a tape-bandage, which needs to be worn for approximately one
week.
The time after the operation
The wound-healing process and the reduction of post-operative
swelling needs approximately 10-14 days. Definite results however, will
not be apparent until after a period of weeks or months.
Any feelings of tension around the scars will disappear within the
first two to three weeks. Depending on the opinion of the operating
surgeon you should refrain from intense sporting activities for between
six to twelve weeks.
We recommend the regular use of skin lotion or ointment to help the wound recover.
Surgery-specific risks
Infections and healing disorders, widened scar formations,
post-operative haemorrhages and temporary loss of feeling are regarded
as special risks of this surgery. All risks will be thoroughly
discussed with you in our first two meetings.

Frequently asked questions about thigh operations
Who performs the operations?
A highly experienced plastic surgeon (and member of the union of German plastic surgeons) carries out all cosmetic surgery in our hospital.
When should lifting be an alternative to liposuction?
In cases of loose, non-elastic skin (with or without local accumulations of fat), liposuction will not improve the situation. However, a resection of the surplus skin would.
Are the scars noticeable?
On the rear of the thighs a scar will sometimes go as far as the knee.
Will the skin's contours be improved after this operation (e.g. cellulite)?
Improvements of irregularities on the surface of the skin after an operation are dubious and should not be expected.
